One commonly asked question is "What is the difference between gift card and coupon items, and when should I use them?
Giftcard item
A gift card item should be used when selling gift cards for amounts, e.g. "10.000 kr. Gift Card". Gift cards can be sold both online and in POS.
If you do not have online sales then it is enough to create one gift card item because you can always change the price in the POS.
If you also have online sales then we recommend creating several, one that is only used for the POS and is simply called "Gift card" or "Gift certificate" and then several with varying prices, e.g. "5.000 kr. Gift card". Please see "How to create a gift card product" for further information.
Coupon item
A coupon item should be used when selling gift certificates for specific products, e.g. "Three course dinner for two". These can only be sold online.
It is very common to sell gift cards for "experiences". Lets say you are running a restaurant and want to sell gift certificates for your three course dinner for two. In such a case you would create a coupon item that "redeems" your three course dinner, twice.
The coupon item is also used for creating punch cards (klippikort), e.g. punch card for 10 cups of coffee. Please see "How to create punch cards" for further information.
In short
Gift card item is for amounts. Sold online and in POS
Coupon item is for experiences or punch cards. Sold online.
